Massage therapy

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, more specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. It is about care. A Registered Massage Therapists has a mission of identifying the root cause of the problem, treat the entire person and body as a whole and support each person’s ability to achieve optimum health and freedom. A Registered Massage Therapist will work with you using education and individualized treatment plans which will enable you to take the steps required to take control of all aspects of your health.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and improves health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. A therapeutic massage includes deep tissue and relaxation techniques, which help to loosen and stretch muscles and fascia. A one hour massage to help melt away today's aches and pains, accompanied by soothing music, is a perfect answer to today's high levels of stress. Massage helps to calm the nervous system, increases blood flow and oxygen to the tissues and also the brain. It increases your awareness of what is going on inside your body, and educates your body on how it should be feeling.

What will happen on your initial visit?

You will complete a health history form. This form helps the therapist understand your health background. Depending on your history and present condition, the Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.) may conduct Range of Motion, Strength and Neurological tests. All of these tests are done to determine a treatment plan specific to your needs.

During your massage, you will be fully draped, except the area being treated. It is your choice whether or not you will be clothed for your massage. Massage Therapy does work best directly on the skin, but modifications can be made to suit your safety and security needs.
